The last time I got so excited about a Wordpress release is when Wordpress 2.5 was released and it was worth it. Although Wordpress 2.6 was not supposed to come out for like another month, do not underestimate it’s potential. As always, the new version of Wordpress has some minor bug fixes but nevertheless, a lot of killer new features.
Here’s a recap of the coolest features I’m digging right now.
If you’re blogging online through the Wordpress editorial interface, good news to you! Remember that time you though that., the article you’ve been writing actually looked better 5 minutes ago before you going ahead and making those revisions? Well, now wordpress automatically saves multiple revisions of the article being edited from time to time. So, if you should go back in time to a revised version before, or if you want to compare the revised versions to find in which one you’d strike gold, post revisions are for you!
Here’s something that I’ve been longing to see. When you insert an image through Wordpress gallery, now you have a chance to define a caption for the image. And that would align itself under the image so that the picture description would not be limited to a mouse-hovered-for-tool-tip.
If you’d like to change your themes regularly or at least, test them out from time to time, I know how annoying it could be to activate one by one and refresh your blog’s home page to see how it looks. Well, not anymore – Live theme preview makes it possible to check how your theme would look on you blog with a click of the mouse and NOT activate it for the whole world to see during the process.
In addition to those,
So, I guess that sums it up. There are more smaller features, and if you want to get more on them, and get into the new shoes, check this out.
I am really liking 2.6 it has some excellent features. Just wish they would`nt update so bloody often.
Yeah, WordPress 2.6 rocks. I’ve been trialing it since Beta 1 til it’s final, so there’s not much surprise left when the final came out
@David: Are you kidding? The more the better lol.. maybe you should install the Automatic Upgrade WordPress plug-in instead of doing it manually
Yeap sometimes it is a pain to update it so often… I guess it’s more because of the security fixes rather than new features…
Oh yeah.. Although yu might have problems with some hosts – that is the best pain killer available
Thanks for the great summary. I’m still nervous about upgrading, though. I’m concerned that the install will mess up, and my site will be down too long. I’ve read som horror stories about that. I have 2.3.3 right now, and it’s working pretty well. I’d really love that caption feature, though !
Good Summary!
I upgraded to WP 2.6 and i am loving it.
Heya, a great post, I agree that there are some great new features in there. The one which was the biggest winner for me was having the plugins separated, it just makes so much more sense.
I am really hoping that Wordpress continues the way it has been in the next couple of releases as it seems that they have been really moving forward in leaps and bounds.

Great features, i am going to upgrade it..
which is the best way to upgrade
BEWARE: Upgraded to WP 2.6 using WPAU (Wordpress Automatic Upgrade plugin). Blog has modified Binary Blue theme. Now all ajax live commenting is broken.
Have no idea how to fix. Inline comments do not work.
Just plain simple FTP for me..
Hmm.. Strange.. I’m also running Ajax Inline comments but haven’t seen any issues..
