When you can’t find the time to keep your blog afloat…

Well, first off, I would like to apologize from all of my readers for the lack of contribution within the past few days in the terms of posting! Guys, exams are never a good thing for a procrastinator of education, is it? Nevertheless, I’m back and thinking that I should talk a bit about “Saving up for rainy days”.

s_ship_in_huge_waves_and_crazy_storm375Well, I’m sure if you’ve been blogging for some time, once in a while these days come-up that you’re unable to contribute anything valuable to your blog. Maybe because you just can’t get over procrastination or maybe because it gets so busy and time flies by. Whatever it is, the bottom line is that you don’t get to do what you need to do, on that particular day. And, this is exactly what I was faced with with this blog in the past couple of days. You’re right… It just sounds so unprofessional!

So, when those days come, it would be pretty obvious to you that you can’t navigate the ship. But, at least, you can try keep it afloat. It’s easier to recover your ship from being off-course rather than recovering it from the ocean bed right?

So here are a few things that I came up with to help you get through these rainy days in one piece.

Check-out the forecast

I’m sure you already do this, but for the sake of the bloggers who already aren’t, I’d just mention it. Sometimes, rainy days will hit you without warning. But most of the time, you can pickup a few signs. Don’t ignore these. If you know that a week from now you will be busier than your usual schedule, it’s time to work a bit more these days to face the busy days.

Prevention is better than cure. Most of your readers would not care to keep their subscription intact of you’re not giving them what they want.

Priority List

to do list_1 You have priorities in life right? You just don’t go see a movie canceling a doctor’s appointment, do you? (Well, to me it depends on the movie) Likewise, keep a priority list for your blogging activities too.

When you’re worried about building a better blog, you’re worried about so many things at the same time. Writing content, reading and commenting other blogs, being active in social media, networking with other bloggers and etc. But when these days hit you, chances are likely that you won’t be able to do all of the things above that you need to do. Chances are likely that you will have to give up doing certain things on certain days.

So build a priority list and prioritize all of your daily blogging tasks. Being active in social media is not as important as writing you own content, or commenting on other blogs. So, that is not a high priority task. You get the idea?

This will  help you complete the most important tasks that you want in a day, with the limited amount of time that you have

Backup Posts

It’s always helpful to have some completed and un-published posts in your drafts folder. Sometimes, when you just can’t find the time to write something new, these drafts folders will save the day. Think of it as a investment that is going to pay off.

Simply, try to write one or two more posts per day than the amount required for your blog. When rainy days come, you will survive! Don’t try to overdo yourself since when you try too hard to produce content at a very short period of time, the quality of that content will seriously de-grade.

So, what do you do to keep your blog afloat on the stormy days?

    Nice one.
Well as for what I do keep it floating,it’s just back up posts.Right now I have something like 5-6 unpublished posts. But I’d like to add something this Nadz, people will always have to keep an eye on the relvency of the unpublished work.I don’t know whether this will be much of a problem for the MMO bloggers and the bloggers who blog about blogging, but for me since I run a music blog this is crucial.I can’t write a review about an album that was released three months ago can I?
And yes, through experience I know a post a day is very hard work, but if you are passionate about it,and keep doing it,it will obviously pay off.Two months back I wasn’t even close to imagining the amount of traffic I get now!

Yeap, I’m with you on that… Blogging about something that you’re passionate about brings surefire success… Like I said, it has everything to do with the niche.
      Cheers!

Its back up posts for me as well , and I was also going to mention what Metal Cracker said , although it might not apply so much for a blog about blogging ;)

I agree.. It doesn’t matter much for a blog about blogging specifically if you’re not into reviewing so much stuff.

Ugh, you sure hit the nail on my head. Lately my post frequency has been dropping sigificantly due to excessive following on top bloggers on social media (twitters etc.)

Sigh …., Maybe I should stop this social media thing until I have spare time left after posting on my blog.

Good tips. I will take note of the suggestions. I have been quite busy of late. I hardly have time for my blog. But like you said, I just have to keep it afloat. I don’t want the blog to go under
    @Metal Cracker
You have a good point there. The focus of a blog will determine if it is actually possible to have backup posts. A blog that releases latest news cannot do anything of such. It’s posts must be relevant and timely. ;) Thanks for sharing.
