Quick tip: How to increase your flash movie quality.

I write about this golden rule because I’ve seen many flash beginners not using this technique and waste their creativity by making the movie look a bit crappier. So if you don’t already do this with your flash content, just give it a try.

PLAY WITH YOUR FPS!

FPS? Frames per second. You can change it in the ‘frame rate’ box, in the properties dialog. The default is 12 when you open a new flash movie. And most beginners don’t care to change it. The problem with the default 12 fps is that there’s more of a delay between two frames. And that makes it look like a animation with lower quality. More like it’s been slowed down. But chnage it to around 20 fps and see. You’ll instantly feel the difference. Your animation will have more ‘energy’ in its flow.

Play around the fps until you get a good ‘flow’. The down-side of this is that your files would be much larger as your movie consumes more frames than the default. for an instance, a movie that lasts for 10 seconds will consume 10×12=120 frames at default 12 fps. But a movie of 20 fps will consume 10×20=200. So watch your step while you play around the fps. You don’t want people to wait forever till your flash movie downloads in their browser right? Good. Because they just won’t wait for it.. Will they?
