How to decide on a domain name for your web site
Most of us want so bad to perfect what follows http://www… that refers to our web site. The art of perfecting the domain picking is vast but also follows a few simple protocols. So let’s see what these protocols are shall we?
Make it easily memorable
Of all the simple rules, your domain should be easily memorable. There’s no point in having a domain that features 20 keywords but so hard to keep in mind. Keep it short and clear.
Keep it simple
Simplicity is simply ignorable, right? wrong! When you are picking a domain, just make it up with simple words. Simple words would be easily remembered and they straightaway convey the integrity of your site. The last thing you need is a person not looking up on your online club portal, just because he doesn’t know what ‘fraternity’ means in coolfraternity.com yeah?
Aim for keywords
If you are new to the trade, you are yet to find out that keyword-laid domain names are so exhausted! I mean, they just have so many variations. For an example, if you’re running a web-host, chances of you gettiing a global domain with relevant keywords is so low. The reason is that search engines value site that return the relevant keywords, so they are marked high. So when you are going for one, consider putting in some keywords all right?
Creativity might help
In the process of finding your grounds in the over-exhausted keyword laid domains would be much easier with a little bit of creativity. You know, something that would stick to a visitor’s mind. Something unique. Like Google! How can you possibly get a name like Google out of your mind? That’s what I’m talking about. Your domain might not have fancy keywords, but it always stands a chance in striking someone’s mind and sticking to it.
Be careful when going for country specific domains
When you pick country specific domains like ‘.co.uk’ or ‘.us’, you automatically send out a message to some search engines that your site content is country specific. Unless you don’t feature site content which are not country specific, you might not want to decide on that. Some search engines don’t even bother to index some non-global domain names… So, watch your step.
If possible, work on a catchy domain name logo
I remember the first time i came across godaddy.com’s logo. That might not be the most catchy logo ever, but their logo was the thing that was constantly on my mind. My point here is psychological. People remember things far better if they see it. So, show out your domain name. And to make it sticky, give it a catchy look. Use a releveant symbol, a graphic or just really nice text effects. Carve it into the person who sees it.
