Google Webmaster Tools – making life easier for bloggers!

Are you making use of the FREE Toolset that Google is giving away for everyone? If not, it’s high time that you did. It can significantly improve the whole process of your blog’s/web’s integration with the search engine that is responsible for most of the search engine traffic in the world – Google! It’s feature include;
-
Extensive use of sitemaps
Now you can directly upload your XML sitemap on Google. Once uploaded, Google checks the sitemap out and indexes the links. This is a great way for making sure that all of your pages on that 1000 page blog get indexed by Google.
I use a Wordpress plug-in called ‘Google-sitemap-generator‘ for this. With a click, I generate a sitemap in XML and the plug-in automatically pings Google so that Google always indexes my latest posts with extreme ease. (For me, that is…)
- Crawling and Indexing stats
Gives you in-depth information on Google bots’ crawling on your site and indexing status. Shows you detailed errors – if any – that might be affecting your search engine ranking. Also, if your site offers a Mobile Version, you can get the Mobile Web Crawl status too.
- Looking through the eyes of a spider!
You can see what the Google bot sees in your site. This can be really helpful when you’re optimizing your site for Google.
- Google subscriber stats
You can easily find out how many people have subscribed to your feeds using Google products like Google reader or iGoogle!
-
Keyword analysis
Find out what brings your blog/web up when searched for. Keyword analysis helps you understand what people are looking for and therefore, you can optimize your site efficiently for people too.
-
Link Popularity
You can see how many sites are actually linking to your blog/web. Google will return all the links pointing to your site from other webs. You can manually use this feature in Google search by simply typing in – ‘link: www.mysite.com’
This just has many more other advanced features really worth checking out. Go and check it out for yourself – www.google.com/webmasters/tools

Well I knew all about those and using them when I made my blogs.
Google Analytics is definitely helpful for blogging and site stats. I like Statcounter as well, I feel it’s good to have both installed to see what’s bringing people to your blog.
Aaargh! I can never get the Google XML Sitemap plugin to work. It always returns with “unable to write file”… and I’ve already CHMo’d the files, uploaded the blanks, etc. I’m running v2.6, any ideas?
