Don’t do it just because A-listers tell you to do so!

Don't do it just because A-listers tell you to do so! When I started blogging, I used to read a lot of blogs about blogging. It’s not that I’ve stopped reading them, just that I’ve significantly cut down the time I’ve used to walk in the shoes of those A-listers. I haven’t stopped taking their advice or tips – but rather, I have stopped taking everything that they have to offer, blindly.

There’s no doubt that so called A-listers help hundreds of newbie bloggers to get started and so on. Take what they have to offer – not who they are. I’m just saying this because there are hundreds and hundreds of newbies that follow these A-listers, and imitate every trait of them, even worship them, trying to be them. You can not replicate their success, simply because, you’re not them!

Ever since I’ve started blogging, I’ve gone on to explore and employ new success formulae. And a good percentage of them are not the repetitive “Blogging about Blogging” tips that you hear 243 times per day in your feed reader. The day that I wanted to make a difference is the day that I realized I have to be different. Take an example.

If 5 bloggers who have 20,000 feed subscribers each exposed that posting on forums is a killer way of getting traffic to your blog, out of the 100,000 people, at least 10,000 will test it out? And if you’re one of them posting on forums, and think that the A-lister had exposed an absolute secret to you, you’re dead wrong! You’re just competing with 9,999 people, all wanting a piece of the pie. It’s not something wrong with the person who’s saying forum posting is a killer secret – it’s something wrong with the person who’s blindly buying it out even though it had hardly made a difference for him.

So, do you fully understand that you can’t be successful by replicating someone else’s success? I’m not asking you to disregard what successful people have to say. But rather, try to look at what they have to say in an open mind.

  1. This could be one of those good read of the day. What an interesting and unpopular train of thought. I commend your originality and style of walking the road less traveled.

You are 100% correct. It took me about two months to realize that following the successes of others leads to very little success for yourself. When I blazed my own trail I made huge jumps and gains for myself. I kills me every time I see a new blogger regurgitating the same thing as the “a-listers” expecting the same results. Chasing the wrong dream at that point.

Hooray for you! You wrote outside of the box due to your experience! You are right, if you have seen it 17 million times, it is not worth anything to you. Good Job!

Those money making blogs… can’t get enough of them.

It seems like the blogosphere is flooded with those “make money blogging” blogs. Everyone is saying the same thing. No one shows proof of income. I think they’re trying to promote a self image of success so you buy into it and click their links. It’s annoying for me to run into those kind of blogs.

Looks like we view those blogs the same way, sort of. I take what they have to say into consideration, but I don’t immediately walk into something I don’t know anything about. I try to do things my own way, because if I try to emulate somebody else, I mess things up, then I won’t know where to turn to for help. Good rule for the real world!

    Keep up the good work!

  5. Thank You Yan! Glad that we share the same point of view.

  6. Josh, couldn’t agree with you more. The success of our own endeavors are achieved because of our own efforts.

  7. Thank you Linda. Since it appears 17 million times, it’s a good sign that those particular million dollar tips should be dealt with an open mind.

  8. Appreciate it Thaiger. As you’ve said, it’s all about the real world., where you should create your own mark. Not replicate someone else’s!

Like you had mentioned, best to be slightly wary of following to the T , advice from A-Listers. You can listen, then just tailor your approach to suit your personal style.

  10. [...] have been much much less financially stable now, which sucks:) Reminds me of my earlier article – Don’t do it just because A-listers tell you to do so! Technorati Tags: Monetize,Blogs,Make Money,Insights Rate this: 3.8 (2 people) Bookmark [...]
