I was never against it though. A lot of people were against it when some people started monetizing blogs too. But I guess it’s perfectly OK today; With most of us – at least.

I’ve seen account with 4000+ followers generally going for around $1000+, when listed on eBay. You can get a round figure on what’ it’s worth from WhatsYourTweetWorth. But, unless something convinces you to get rid of your Twitter Account, that’s not likely to happen right?

So, the obvious monetization moves would be to get your profile sponsored. You know, throw in a small banner in the background, send a promo tweet once every 30th Tweet, and so on. And obviously, “how much” would depend on how popular you’re on Twitter. That is, how many followers you are having and so on.

Of course, trying to find advertisers can prove to be a hassle. Doing it on eBay should be relatively easy, but you’re not guaranteed of an advertiser. And this is an instance where you can make use of services like Twittad. Not everyone would want to sell their profiles through a 3rd party, but it’s really convenient provided that you don’t want to search for advertisers yourself.

The idea of monetizing a Twitter Account still is a relatively alien idea to most of the people. But with the exponential growth of Twitter, I guess it won’t be that much of a big idea when more and more people start doing it. Nevertheless, an extra few bucks couldn’t possibly hurt, yeah?

Anyway, these are some really useful Web Apps I’m using presently. And I hope that you will find them equally useful – or better.

tweetreplies.com – Does the simple task of e-mailing you when you have an @ replying waiting for you at Twitter. You can periodically set these e-mails to be sent and with this, hopefully, you will not miss any of the action.

Tweetvisor.com – A simple dashboard to keep track of what’s going on, around the world, as seen by the Twitterers!

TwitExplorer.com – Manage the people whom you follow, who follows you and find new interesting people that you can follow accrding to your interests and so on.

twtpoll.com – I always wanted to create polls with Twitter. You know, it’s a platform that I can maintain a large number of friend circles and family, and it’s probably the best place to get the popular opinion. And twtpoll does that for you! It lets you conduct polls in Twitter and organizes the data in charts and etc for easy comparison.

Friend Or Follow – Want to find out the people whom your are following and who are not following you back (or vice versa)? Friend or Follow is exactly what you’re looking for!

Twonvo.com – View your Twitter Conversations as a thread – making it easy to follow a conversation and not have to search for each @reply individually. A really useful tool for those of you who use Twitter extensively for conversing.

Tweetmarks.com – Integrate your Twitter account with your del.ico.us bookmarks. Automatically save and categorize the links you tweet about, and automatically add them so that you can keep track of the stuff that find most interesting.

Twilert – Have a Blog, a Product or a Startup?

When Plurk came out, I found it as a fun, innovative way of keeping in touch with friends – so, I just had to try it out. But it was <strike>impossible</strike> really hard to make sure the functioning of my Twitter account as well as the Plurk.

Why?

But first, why would a blogger like me a trying to make money should be concerned about keeping both of these functional? Because it’s killer traffic! You post something and announce it onto your followers on Twitter or Plurk! The interested ones will check it out – which will significantly bring you a lot of exposure provided that you have a targeted set of followers, great in numbers too…

If you’re interested about finding ways to build traffic to your blog with these services, check my earlier article – 2 Aggressive Social Media secrets that can really bring you traffic!

So, how do you do it?

I agree that Plurk and Twitter have their differences. But, their primary concept is the same., right? And by the way, I wasn’t even thinking of letting my Twitter account go like most of the others did. So, my only option was to make sure that both of them go parallel. I don’t lead a double life:), so I had to find a way to make sure Twitter and Plurk both are synchronized simultaneously according to my status. And that’s when I found Ping.fm! Simply said,

Use AIM, GTalk, iGoogle, WAP, iPhone/iPod Touch, SMS or E-mail and let Ping.fm relay your message to a multitude of social networking sites.

So, what I do now is that I keep Ping.fm on my IM client and update it as necessary so that my Plurk, Twitter and Facebook accounts get updated. But, Ping.fm supports many social networking sites other than those 3.

But, watch out!

But it’s only fair that I make you aware of the drawbacks of using this service. First, these services are about collaborating with people. Especially when you update Twitter or Plurk, you are bound to get some replies – but if you just keep it to Ping.fm, you will never see the replies. It’s totally cool if you want to post to all of them at the same time, but check back from time to time (depends on the number of your followers) to respond to the people who replied.

Hey! It’s social media mate:) Spammers die quick!

If you want to automate the posting from your blog when a new blog post is added, I recommend using PingPress.fm plugin for Wordpress. Hope you will find this new service useful.

Well, in the beginning there was darkness, then came Twitter. It was the next big thing that everyone was talking about and was quite an addiction to the scores of people who were not eating, breathing, sleeping and even dreaming without posting on Twitter. And then, things started to get a bit ugly as the outages on Twitter, kept the whole Twitter community in dark for too long. That was till there was a new bird on the block – Plurk!

Plurk came at the right time with the right formula. All the people who had it with the dysfunctional Twitter civilization found a new promised land on Plurk. They planted their flag there and had been enjoying the unexhausted-yet servers of Plurk.

So, you all will agree that, in a nutshell, that’s what happened. Whatever said and done, most of us were getting weary about the outages in Twitter and we were a bit dependent on it for our social interactions. When Twitter let us down too many times for too long, the best option was to call it quits for most of us.

By reading some reviews of Plurk, we bloggers tend to have the impression that Plurk indeed has the power to beat Twitter. And by comparing the two, most of the reviews, put Plurk on a higher level than Twitter. But if I had to do a review on it, I wouldn’t necessarily put Plurk on a higher level. Why? While certainly giving kudos to Plurk for their most innovative approach, I do feel that Plurk and Twitter tend to have two different formulae.

To make a long story short, there will always be people who have established themselves on Twitter and will find it hard to do the same thing on Plurk anytime soon. For that sole reason, they will tend to hang around Twitter much more than they would like to.

Secondly, and most importantly, there will be a bunch of users who will always appreciate the simplicity that Twitter offers. What we shouldn’t forget is that simplicity of Twitter was one of the factors largely attributed to it’s long term success. It’s not that the people behind Twitter didn’t want to add new features – it’s just that the Twitter framework doesn’t allow much to be done without actually hurting it’s simplicity, which many love – subconsciously.

So, there lies the big question – Can Plurk beat Twitter at it’s own game? If the current trends continue, yes! Not necessarily because Plurk is better or anything – but because, when Twitter goes down, they need a new Twitter., and that seems to be Plurk.

I love Plurk and I have been an active user since it came out. But I didn’t let go of Twitter as a result. I still love the idea of going to a movie store and sending a text message to my Twitter account to ask my followers what’s the latest DVD release that they would recommend. Plurk can do that for me in the most efficient way imaginable, only that it’s a bit too complex for simple SMS’s to handle.

But I do agree. Plurk has got some serious potential. Let’s hope that it doesn’t keep us in the dark like Twitter did though ironically, at this time the post is being written, it says “Plurk is currently under routine maintenance, We apologize for the inconvenience”.

By the way, if you’re on Twitter or Plurk, let’s be friends!

I’ve been on Twitter for sometime, and lately been a bit addicted to it. On my quest for enhancing my Twitter experience, I stumbled upon some awesome Twitter tools. But 8 of them were so exceptional that I thought that they’re probably worth sharing with the ROCKFUSE readers. So, here goes…

Twhirl – This is probably the best Twitter client for Windows out there. Let’s you post Tweets from the PC, sort Direct Messages and Replies, shorten URLs and so forth. If you’re looking for a Twitter client, this is my personal recommendation.

Twitter Tools – Integrate your blog into Twitter. Create Tweets from your latest blog posts and create blog posts from your latest Tweets.

Twittervision – Let’s you see where your friends Tweet from, by displaying their location on a World map.

Twitter Flashlite – Post Tweets from your mobile device. Uses a data connection through a WAP interface so no need to send SMSs to Twitter.

Post To Twitter – Update Twitter using your Firefox search bar. Doesn’t get any easier than that!

TwitterBuzz – Let’s you see what’s creating the buzz. This tool gets the URLs from Tweets and lists the most Tweeted ones so you can check out what’s creating the buzz in the Twitter-o-sphere.

AutoTwit – Put your Twittering on autopilot. Try it out… Half of the people will absolutely love it, the other half will absolutely hate it!

Twadget – A Twitter sidebar gadget for Windows Vista – need I say more?

So here’s a question! Do you twitter? What? No! This is not a sick joke and I swear it’s not a bad word:) Twitter, in a nutshell, is a social media revolution. Why? Well, because it focuses on the most prime objectives of Social Media. “Staying in touch”!

Twitter tells everyone what you are doing right now! Whether you’re blogging or washing your car, you can easily notify twitter of what you are doing and it will notify all the friends that choose to follow you on twitter. No, you don’t have to have your laptop tied to your naked back while washing the car, you can simply send a text message to twitter to update your status!

Once you register at twitter(oh! by the way, it’s 100% FREE), you can invite your friends on to it. And once they register themselves, you can choose to ‘follow’ them.

What does ‘follow’ do?

Well, basically, it’s all that twitter is. By following a person, you can get updates 24 hrs a day on what they are up to. And they offer updates through their website – twitter.com, through text messages – this is absolutely free and send you a text message whenever your friends post up, and of course, through Instant Messengers. (I don’t know up to what capacity twitter supports Instant Messengers but it sure come hand on my Google Talk!)

In a blogger’s perspective…

Did you not always want all of your friends to know that you have posted that awesome blog post right at the moment you posted it? Well, twitter makes it possible! When your friends follow you on Twitter, they get an instant IM message/text message saying you have posted! And adding to the positivity, it even gives out a ‘tinyurl’ URL to your post, so they don’t receive that annoyingly super-long permalink that you created to feed the Search Engine Spider!

And moreover, you can easily follow all your favorite bloggers on the blog-o-sphere(in case if you were wondering, most of them are already there!), and instantly know what they are up to!

Could it get any better than that? Well, listen to this! You can install their facebook application, and it it gives you the option of updating your facebook automatically when you twitter! That’s right. Feeling the shame of not updating you facebook status for the past decade? One word – Twitter!

In my perspective…

Catch the Twittering wave! I tried it out for the past few weeks and it had been nothing less than awesome. You can even create badges like this to put in your blog:

…so that everyone knows what you’re up to! And it might be the single easiest thing that you did to reach internet stardom! See you all there. So, care to follow me?
