What is a Favicon, Why you need it, and How to add one to your blog…

Untitled-1 Well, long story short - Favicon means Favorite Icon. It supports and enhances the branding of a web site by actually displaying a customized icon in the browser’s URL box, and next to the site’s bookmark in a browser’s bookmark list. For an example, if you’re in the tabbed mode of your browser, you can see the logo of ROCKFUSE appearing in a 16×16 pixel size. The same with your browser’s URL, if you’re using a supporting browser. The Favicon is indeed an ico file that is 16×16 pixels.

Do I really need it?

blog-design: What is a Favicon, Why you need it, and How to add one to your blog... Well, if you think that a 16×16 image can’t change how your blog performs, I’d say you’re right.

  • Would not create duplicate entries in your categories
When a reader browses through your categories, that one wouldn’t be frustrated to see the same article titled “Gavin DeGraw’s Jealous Guy” featured in “songs for the heart” category and “my all time favorite soundtracks” category. (Hey!

Imagine you get a free one-year subscription for Magazine A or Magazine B; of either you should choose. The choice is yours. You can’t pick both. Add a 301-redirect and save your blog!

301 redirect! When I first heard about this 301 redirect thingy, I didn’t take it too seriously. But now, I’ve found enough and more reasons to take it into consideration. And I think you should too, before it’s too late.

What’s the big deal?

Well, you know that once you have a domain of your own, you can address it with or without the ‘www’ right? And any sane human being would know that http://www.rockfuse.com or http://rockfuse.com mean the same. But those search engine spiders do not get it. Yes, in fact, they treat those two URLs as URLs of two different sites. Even Google!
